If you ask me what an LED display is, I will tell you the billboard in Times Square! - Now you have the answer. These bulky screens are bright enough to provide visibility in the scorching sun and withstand strong winds and rain. But are all LED displays so durable? Or are they all equally bright?

The brightness level, resolution and size of an LED display depend on its application. For example, outdoor LED displays such as billboards have higher brightness, wider viewing angles and higher IP ratings, and can withstand harsh weather conditions. But indoor LED displays do not require the same level of reliability. The technology used in these displays also greatly affects performance. In addition, you must understand many terms such as pixel spacing, contrast, refresh rate, etc. to buy the perfect LED display for your project.

So, to help you, I purchased a detailed guide for LED displays. Here I will introduce different display types, technologies, etc. to help you choose the perfect LED display. So, without further ado, let us get started--

What is an LED display?

LED display is a technology that uses LED panels as pixels to generate glowing text, images, videos and other visual information. It is an upgraded and more efficient alternative to LCD displays.

High brightness, high contrast and energy-saving features make LED displays the most attractive marketing tool of our era. They are suitable for indoor and outdoor use. You will find these displays everywhere, including shopping centers, banks, stadiums, highways, showrooms, stations and more. With the advancement of technology, more innovation trends continue to emerge, including OLED, Mini-LED, HDR LED, transparent LED displays, etc.

How does LED displays work?

The working mechanism of LED displays depends on the type of technology used. For example, some LED displays require backlit LCD panels, while others do not. You will learn about this technology in the next section of this article. Now let me introduce to you the basic working principle of LED displays.

The LED display consists of many red, green and blue light bulbs or chips. A red, green and blue LED combine to form a pixel. Each LED is called a subpixel. LED displays consist of hundreds or even thousands of pixels. The mechanism here is very simple. LED displays produce millions of hues by darkening and brightening the colors of subpixels.

It can be formed by mixing three primary colors to form any color. For example, if you want magenta, the red and blue sub-pixels will light up, darkening the green LED. As a result, a purple hue appears on the screen. So you can get any color you want on the LED display.

LED display technology

LED displays use different types of technologies; these are the following-

Edge-lit LED (ELED)

The LED indicator light of the LED display using edge-light technology is located around the display and points to the center. These LED strips are placed on the side, under or around the LCD panel. The working mechanism of ELED technology is very simple. Light from the edge shines into the light guide, guiding it into the diffuser. This then spreads the light evenly across the screen, creating the desired image without any bright spots.

LED direct lighting

LED direct lighting technology places LEDs behind the LCD panel rather than on the periphery like ELEDs. This technology provides better display results by placing LEDs horizontally in a grid pattern. This ensures that the entire display is illuminated. In addition, light passes through the diffuser for more uniform illumination. Therefore, direct illumination LED is a better technology than ELED, which can produce brighter images. But it's more expensive than ELED.

full array

Full array is another LED display technology that uses a backlight system (e.g. direct backlight). But the difference here is that more LEDs are used to cover the entire back of the screen. As a result, it produces brighter and better color contrast than direct lighting techniques. A notable feature of this type of LED display technology is local dimming. With this feature, you can adjust the light output for specific areas of the screen. This is possible because LEDs are divided into different areas using full array technology, and you can control each area individually. Thanks to these features, the technology provides deeper blacks and brighter highlights on the screen.

RGB

RGB technology uses three colors of LEDs: red, green and blue. Dimming and combining these colors produces different colors and shadows on the display. The mechanism is simple. For example, if you want the display to be yellow, current will flow through the red and green LEDs, darkening the blue. As a result, you can use RGB technology to get millions of colors on LED displays.

Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED)

OLED stands for organic light-emitting diodes. The technology uses TFT backplates containing light-emitting compounds such as triphenylamine or polyfluorene. Therefore, when current passes through the panel, they glow, creating a color image on the screen.

OLEDs provide better performance than ELEDs, direct lighting technology and full-screen LEDs. Some of the main advantages of OLED include:

  • Since no backlight is required, it is thinner than previous generations.
  • It has infinite contrast
  • The brightness of each pixel is adjustable
  • Better color accuracy
  • faster response times
  • Infinite perspective

Quantum dot LED (QLED)

Quantum dot LED or QLED technology is an improved version of LCD-LED technology. It uses red and green quantum dots to replace the fluorescent filters used in other LED LCDs. But the most interesting thing here is that these quantum dots do not act as filters. When blue light emitted by the backlight shines on the quantum dots, pure white illumination is generated. The light then passes through the sub-pixels, causing the display to appear white.

This technology solves the problem of color fading in LED displays, especially red, black and white. Therefore, QLED improves the overall image quality of the LED display. In addition, it is energy efficient and provides better color contrast.

Mini LED

Mini LEDs use the same technology as quantum dot LEDs or QLEDs. The only difference is the size of the LED. Mini-LED backlights contain more LEDs than QLED. These features provide larger pixel positions, better resolution and contrast. In addition, it also allows you to better control the black level of your display, which you can adjust to your preferences.

Micro LED

Micro-LED is an advanced form of OLED technology. OLEDs use organic compounds to generate light. But micro-LEDs use inorganic compounds such as gallium nitride. When light passes through these connections, it lights up, creating a color image on the display. The technology is more expensive than OLED because it provides a brighter, higher-quality display.

Types of LED display

LED displays can be divided into different types based on characteristics such as LED packaging, functions or screen shape. View the different LED display options based on the following facts:

Depending on LED package type

LED displays use different types of LED packages. LED There are four types of displays, depending on the configuration of these packages. These are the following-

LED display directly inserted

DIP LED displays use traditional dual-component LED lights instead of LED chips. Observe the DIP LED display carefully and you will see dense coverage of small red, green and blue light bulbs. By combining these DIP LEDs, different light images can be displayed on the display.

LED direct line display features:

  • Produce brighter images than other LED displays
  • Maintain visibility in direct sunlight
  • narrow viewing angle
  • Not suitable for indoor LED displays

Use the LED DIP display:

  • outdoor LED display
  • digital billboard

SMD LED display

SMD LED displays are the most popular category of LED displays. It uses surface mount LED chips instead of the LED lights used in DIP displays. The technology is used in televisions, smartphones and other lighting devices.

Here, red, green and blue LEDs are combined into one chip. Therefore, LED chips are much smaller than LED lights. This allows you to install more SMD LEDs in your display, improving pixel density and resolution quality.

SMD LED display features:

  • a higher pixel density
  • high resolution
  • a wider viewing angle

Using SMD LED display:

  • indoor LED display
  • retail advertising

gob LED display

GOB stands for Paste Board. It uses technology similar to SMD LED displays, but with a better protection system. The GOB LED display contains a layer of adhesive on the surface where the LEDs scream. This additional layer protects the display from severe weather conditions such as rain, wind or dust. In addition, it also provides better heat dissipation and extends the service life of the equipment.

If you are looking for a portable LED display, GOB LED display is the ideal choice for you. They have low maintenance costs and prevent damage from collisions. So you can easily move, install or remove them.

Features of GOB LED display

COB LED display

COB stands for on-board chip. This is the latest LED technology used in LED displays. It provides better display quality than SMD. SMD LEDs incorporate three diodes in each chip, while COBs can incorporate nine or more diodes in one chip. What's even more interesting about COB LEDs is that it only uses one circuit to solder these diodes. This reduces the LED failure rate and ensures trouble-free operation of the LED display. In addition, the high pixel density of COB LED displays provides better resolution and brightness. It can accommodate 38 times more LEDs than a DIP LED display and consumes less power. All these facts make COB LED displays a better choice than other options.

Characteristics of COB LED display

  • High screen brightness
  • high pixel density
  • Highest video resolution
  • low failure rate
  • Better energy efficiency than other LED displays

According to the functions and uses of LED displays, they can be divided into five categories: These are the following-

LED text display

Have you noticed the on/off LED lights in front of the restaurant? This is a wonderful example of an LED text display. This display type only supports alphanumeric and alphanumeric information. They are programmed to display certain text and therefore cannot be changed.

LED picture indicator

LEDs used to display images have more advanced technology than LEDs used to display text. They include text and images in static form. The technology uses two screens to display images. Still image billboards on streets or highways are examples of LED image displays.

LED video indicator

LED video display refers to a display that supports image movement. It is equipped with a large number of high-definition LEDs for higher-resolution video playback. The modern billboard you see on the Times Square billboard is an example of an LED video display.

Digital LED display

The digital display is similar to an LED text display. The only difference is that the number display only supports numbers, while the text display can display numbers and letters. You will find a digital display on the bank's currency board or digital clock. They are made of seven-segment discharge lamps that emit red or orange light to produce different numerical shapes.

Text display with LED grille

The text display with LED grille supports simultaneous display of images and text. Here the text continues to move, but the image remains still. This type of display is used where text movement is required. For example, at the airport gate, you will find an LED text image showing flight times. Similarly, the statistics you see on the stadium screen fall into this category.

Depending on the screen shape

You will see different shapes of LED displays. Based on this, I divided the LED display into three parts:

Flat LED display

Flat panel displays, also known as standard displays, are the most common category of LED displays. They have a thin surface composed of a series of LEDs that create high-resolution displays. The ability of these displays to generate bright images makes them suitable for indoor and outdoor use.

Curved LED display

A flat display with curved corners is called a curved LED display. They form concave surfaces that provide viewers with a larger and wider viewing angle. The most amazing feature of this type of display is its ability to adjust based on the peripheral light of the viewer. They also have greater depth and create more eye-catching visuals than flat panel displays.

LED flexible screen

Flexible LED screens are known for their highly customizable options. They give manufacturers the freedom to construct displays in different forms. The mechanism behind the flexibility of this display is attaching the LED chip to a circuit board or other flexible material such as rubber. They have insulating materials on both sides to protect the display circuitry. In addition, the flexible LED display is easy to use and maintain.

Disadvantages of LED display

In addition to its advantages, LED displays also have some disadvantages. These are the following-

  • Causes light pollution:LED displays provide higher brightness to ensure visibility during the day. But the problem here is that it produces the same level of brightness at night. This excess brightness can lead to light pollution at night. However, considering the environment around you, you can solve this problem by using a light sensor that automatically adjusts the brightness of the screen.
  • Expensive:LED displays are more expensive than traditional banners or printed displays. This requires LED panels, control systems and energy costs, making the technology costly.
  • Defects prone:LED displays are more prone to defects and damage. To avoid this situation, appropriate design is needed.
  • Gradually color cast:Over time, color cast problems will appear on the LED display. This problem is related to white; LED displays usually cannot produce pure white.

Terms you need to know about LED displays

I have listed some terms about LED displays that you should understand to understand the quality of the display. Learning these terms will also help you understand your requirements and choose the ideal display for your project.

pixel pitch

Pixel spacing refers to the distance between two pixels in millimeters (mm). Smaller pixel spacing means less space between pixels. This results in higher pixel density, which provides better image quality. The pixel spacing is represented by the letter P. For example, if the distance between two pixels is 4mm, it is called a P4 LED display. Here I added a chart so you can better understand-

LED display name(based on pixel spacing) pixel pitch
LED screen P1 1 mm
LED screen P2 2 mm
P3 LED screen 3 mm
P4 LED screen 4 mm
P5 LED screen 5 mm
LED screen P10 10 mm
LED screen P40 40 mm

regulations

Resolution refers to the number of pixels displayed on the LED display. The term directly refers to image quality. Suppose you have a large low-resolution screen and a small low-resolution screen. Which model has the best display? Here, screen size is independent of image quality. Higher resolution means more pixels and better image quality. Therefore, it doesn't matter how small the screen is; if it has better resolution, it will provide better images.

The video resolution of the LED display has two numbers: one shows the number of vertical pixels and the other shows the number of horizontal pixels. For example, a high-definition LED display means displaying 1280 pixels vertically and 720 pixels horizontally. Depending on the resolution, LED displays have different names. Check out the chart below for better ideas.

regulations Number of pixels (vertical x level)
HD 1280×720
full HD 1920×1080
2K Quad HD 2560×1440
4 K Ultra HD 3840×2160
5K 5120×2160
8K 7680×4320
10K 10240×4320

viewing distance

The distance at which the visibility or image quality of the LED display is maintained is called the viewing distance of the LED display. To get the best viewing distance, consider pixel spacing. The smaller the pixel spacing, the shorter the minimum viewing distance. Therefore, for smaller rooms, it is best to choose LED displays with small spacing.

The minimum viewing distance of an LED display is equal to the number of pixel spaces. For example, if the pixel spacing of an LED display is 2 mm, the minimum viewing distance is 2 m, then what is the best viewing distance?

To get the best viewing distance, you need to multiply the minimum viewing distance by 3. Therefore, the best viewing distance for LED displays is:

Best viewing distance = minimum viewing distance x 3 = 2 x 3 = 6 m.

LED display pixel pitch minimum viewing distance optimal viewing distance
P1.53 Indoor small-pitch LED display 1.53 mm > 1.53 m > 4.6 m
P1.86 Indoor small-pitch LED display 1.86 mm > 1.86 m > 5.6 m
P2 indoor LED display 2 mm > 2 m 6 meters
P3 indoor LED display 3 mm > 3 m 9 meters
P4 indoor LED display 4 mm > 4 m 12 meters
P5 indoor LED display 5 mm > 5 m 15 meters
P6.67 LED display 6.67 mm > 6.67 m > 20 m
P8 LED display 8 mm > 8 m > 24 m
P10 LED display 10 mm > 10 m > 30 m

viewing angle

The viewing angle of the LED display determines the maximum angle at which viewers can enjoy viewing while maintaining consistent quality. But you may be wondering how viewing angle affects image quality.

If you watch TV from the center, the viewing angle will not affect image quality. But what if your eyes are off center? In this case, if the viewing angle is small, the display will appear darker. In order to solve this problem, outdoor billboards use wide viewing angle LED displays. For example, LED displays in shopping malls have a larger viewing angle. In this way, moved audiences can see high-quality visual effects from all angles.

178 degrees (vertical) x 178 degrees (horizontal) is considered to be the widest viewing angle for an LED display. However, viewing angles of 120 to 160 degrees can provide significant display quality for general use.

refresh rate

The refresh rate of an LED display refers to the number of times the image is refreshed or refreshed per second. It uses units of Hertz (Hz) Definition. For example, the LED display has a refresh rate of 1920Hz, or one second; 1920 new images are drawn on the screen. Now you may be asking why a higher refresh rate is needed.

To check the refresh rate of the LED display, turn on the phone's camera and record the screen. If your monitor has a low refresh rate, you will find more black lines in recorded videos or photos taken. This padding can make the displayed content seem unattractive, making it difficult to interact with the audience. Therefore, never underestimate the benefits of higher refresh rates. You can follow these tips to get a higher upgrade rating:

  • Get a high refresh rate LED display module.
  • Select high-quality control ICs.
  • Use an efficient LED control program to control your LED display.

brightness

The brightness of the LED display is measured in nits. The higher the nit value, the brighter the LED screen. But is a brighter display always a good choice? The answer is clear: No. Before selecting brightness, you need to analyze application requirements. For example, if you need an LED display for indoor use, a brightness range of 300 to 2,500 nits is sufficient. If you exceed this range, you may cause eye strain and headaches due to excessive brightness. Similarly, if you want an LED stadium display, the brightness level should be higher. Here is a chart of recommended brightness levels for various applications:

departments Recommended display brightness
indoor 300 to 2,500 nits
the semi-open 2,500 to 5,000 nits
outdoor activities 5,000 to 8,000 nits
Outdoor sunlight Above 8,000 nits

contrast

The contrast ratio of LED displays measures the difference in brightness ratio between the darkest black and the whitest white. This ratio indicates the ability of LED displays to produce rich, bright colors. Higher contrast means better image quality. An LED display with an aspect ratio of 1000:1 means that the brightness level of all black is 1000 times lower than that of all white. Low contrast reduces the appearance of content, making it gray and less saturated. Therefore, in order to ensure the correct viewing effect, an LED display with a higher contrast should be selected.

How to choose the best LED display? - buyers 'guide

Through the previous section, you have already understood the basic characteristics and terminology of LED displays. Now I will help you choose the best LED display.

To save you time, you can check out the top ten LED display manufacturers in China.

Consider location-indoor/outdoor

The placement position of the LED display is an important factor when selecting the brightness level. If you install a monitor indoors, you can use a lower brightness level, but pay attention to indoor lighting. Similarly, if the display is intended for outdoor use, choose a higher brightness based on its exposure to sunlight.

Determine your screen size requirements

The size of the LED screen depends on the room size, resolution and pixel spacing. Screen size refers to the width x height of the LED display. But the ideal size depends on changes in resolution. However, there is one basic rule for determining the ideal screen size for an LED display:

Ideal screen size (meters)=(resolution pixel spacing) 1000

For example, if the pixel spacing of an LED display is 3mm, the required screen size is:

  • For HD (1280 x 720):

Screen width = (1280 x 3) 1000 = 3.84 m

Screen height = (720 x 3) 1000 = 2.16 m

Recommended screen size = 3.84m (width) x 2.16m (height)

  • For Full HD (1920 x 1080):

Screen width = (1920 x 3) 1000 = 5.760 m

Screen height = (1080 x 3) 1000 = 3.34 m

Recommended screen size = 5.760m (width) x 3.34m (height)

  • For Ultra HD (3840 x 2160):

Screen width = (3840 x 3) 1000 = 11.52 m

Screen height = (2160 x 3) 1000 = 11.52 m

Recommended screen size = 11.52m (width) x 11.52m (height)

So you can see that the screen size changes the resolution for the same pixel spacing. The same thing happens if the resolution remains the same and the pixel spacing decreases or increases.

Therefore, when purchasing LED displays, pixel spacing and resolution should be considered. In addition, the size of the room is also an important factor to consider.

protection grade

The IP level determines the level of protection of the LED display. It contains two numbers that determine the level of protection: one for solid penetration and the other for liquid penetration. A higher IP rating means better protection from collisions, dust, wind, rain and other weather conditions. But is a higher IP level always necessary? No, you need to review the application to determine the IP level. If you install LED displays indoors, upgrading to a higher IP level will be a waste of money. But for outdoor conditions, such as installing billboards, you need more protection. In this case, the protection level of the LED display must reach IP65 or at least IP54. Upgrading to IP65 will protect your LED display from dust, heavy rain and other hard objects. To learn more about IP ratings, check out this article. IP Level: A complete guide.

Compare functionality and quality

When purchasing LED displays, you will encounter different conditions to judge its quality. But first you need to understand your needs and then match them with the product you want to buy. You should use these quick tips to select the best quality:

  • Choose higher resolution LEDs Display screen for better visual quality.
  • Higher contrast will provide brighter colors and richer image quality.
  • Choose a higher refresh rate for smoother motion and reduce screen flicker.
  • Choose a perspective based on your application. If the target audience watches in a concentrated manner (such as an LED display in a conference room), a smaller viewing angle will come into play. But if the LED display is aimed at a mobile audience, such as a display in a shopping mall, a higher viewing angle should be selected.

energy consumption

The power consumption of an LED display depends on many factors, including the technology used, brightness and screen size. The use of LED displays also has a significant impact on power consumption. For example, at the same brightness level, outdoor LED screens consume more energy than indoor LED screens. Check the table below to better understand your energy consumption.

display type Energy consumption (watts/square meter) Maximum brightness level (nits)
P4 indoor LED display 290 1800
P6 indoor LED display 290 1800
P6 LED display cap. 375 7000
P8 LED display 400 7000
P10 LED display 450 7000
Outdoor energy-saving P10 LED screen 200 7000

Therefore, we can see from the above figure that the power consumption of outdoor LED displays is high. And as the pixel spacing increases, the power consumption increases. The higher the required power resolution, the better. However, choosing energy-saving options can save your electricity bill.

Check warranty policy

Most LED display manufacturers offer a warranty period of 3 to 5 years. But LED displays are usually durable enough to last for more than seven years as long as they are properly maintained. However, you should review the terms and conditions of service before purchasing.

LED display installation method

Depending on the application of the LED display, you can install the LED display in a variety of ways. For example, installing outdoor LED screens is more difficult than installing indoor LED screens. In addition, you should build a more durable structure for outdoor LED displays to withstand harsh weather conditions such as storms and high winds. But these factors are not taken into account when installing indoor LED displays. Below I list various installation methods for indoor and outdoor LED displays. Complete these processes and select the one that best suits your application category.

wall mounting

Wall-mounted LED screen installations are suitable for indoor and outdoor applications. For indoor installations, the brackets must be fixed to the wall. Consider the weight of the LED display and make sure the bracket is strong enough to support the screen. But for outdoor installations such as digital billboards, you will need a custom steel frame to install on the walls of the building. The service platform is built between the display screen and the service wall. However, the venue uses a forwarding service system.

In-wall installation

If you want your LED display to look neat and tidy, please choose a wall-mounted installation method. During this process, the display is installed inside the wall using a front-end service system-this type of installation is suitable for indoor and outdoor applications. But the installation is quite complex, and engineers must calculate the appropriate depth to embed the screen.

surface mount

You may see hanging displays at train stations, basketball courts and other event venues. This installation category is most suitable for areas with high traffic. But here we must consider whether the strength of the ceiling can support the weight of heavy LED displays to avoid accidents.

pole mount

Light pole installation is suitable for LED billboards. This design is very expensive because installing the pillars requires building a concrete foundation. This process includes testing soil strength, wind loads, etc. Here, it is important to consider the height of the columns to avoid interfering with the surrounding infrastructure. The biggest benefit of pole installation is visibility. Because the LED display is installed at a high height, people in the distance can see what is being displayed. However, depending on the size of the LED display, there are two types of pole mounts:

  • Small LED display mounted on single pole
  • Double pole installation provides more reliable support for large LED displays

roof installation

Roof mounting is a great choice for increasing the visibility of display content. You will see such installations in urban areas with large buildings. But wind loads are the most challenging situation engineers face when installing roofs. When installed on poles, LED displays are safer than roof-mounted installations. However, installing roofs is still cheaper than the pillar method because there is no need to build concrete foundations. However, the structure of the building and its ability to support the weight of the screen must be considered.

Mobile LED display

Mobile LED displays are the latest form of advertising. At the same time, LED screens are also installed on cars. While driving, the vehicle distributes information about the content of the display to many people. As a result, this type of installation is becoming increasingly popular.

Factors affecting the life of LED displays

Although LED displays have durable and long-lasting technology. However, some factors directly affect its service life. These are the following-

  • Ambient temperature and heat dissipation

Ambient temperature has a great impact on the mechanism of LED displays. If the ambient temperature is high, the operating temperature of the display will increase. Eventually, the LED display overheats and shortens the service life of internal components. In order to avoid this situation, an effective heat dissipation method is needed. For example, you can install a fan or air conditioner to prevent overheating. Radiative surface treatments are also an excellent choice to reduce temperatures.

  • supply voltage

The power consumption of LED displays is different in indoor and outdoor applications. You must have a well-configured display and install it correctly to ensure proper power supply. This will help you get maximum power output without affecting service life.

The difference between LED display and LCD display

LCD displays are the predecessor of LED display technology. Despite its many shortcomings, LCD is still a strong competitor to LCD displays. The low cost of LCD technology is one of the main reasons for its popularity.

  • LED displays use LEDs to create images. Liquid crystal displays, on the other hand, use liquid crystals to generate illumination.
  • The LED display can emit light on its own and does not rely on external lighting. But LCD monitors rely on ambient light, which puts their image quality in question.
  • For outdoor installations, brightness is a key factor to consider. LED displays can provide much higher brightness than LCD displays. This feature makes LEDs the best choice for outdoor lighting.
  • LED displays have higher contrast than LCD displays. Therefore, by using LED displays, you will get brighter colors, better glare and color accuracy.
  • LCD displays may not be suitable for mobile walking areas because of their narrow viewing angles. But just install an LED display here. Their vertical and horizontal viewing angles are as high as 178 degrees. In this way, the audience can correctly appreciate the content being displayed from any angle.
  • Compared to other lighting systems, LED technology consumes the lowest energy. Therefore, if you want a power-saving feature, an LED display will be a better choice than an LCD display.
  • The LED display module has a thinner frame and is more convenient to operate. But the viewing experience of LCD displays will be affected because of their narrow visible borders.
  • In terms of service life, LED displays have a longer service life than LCD displays. They can work more than 100,000 hours. However, this life may be interrupted by improper maintenance.

LED versus OLED displays-which is better?

OLED is one of the latest LED display technologies. Traditional LED displays require backlighting, but OLED displays do not. One of the significant differences between this technology is its mechanism. OLED displays contain organic compounds that glow when current passes through. But the LED display does not contain organic compounds.

In terms of performance, OLEDs have better heat dissipation accuracy and a wider viewing angle than LED displays. In addition, OLED displays allow you to control the brightness of individual pixels. This feature provides you with unlimited contrast. Therefore, there is no doubt that OLED displays have better technology than LED displays. Therefore, its price is much more expensive.

Indoor LED display and outdoor LED display

There are many differences between indoor and outdoor LED displays that need to be considered. However, the main differentiation criteria are as follows:

standard Indoor LED screen LED display
defined LED displays installed indoors are called indoor LED displays. Outdoor LED displays refer to displays installed in outdoor areas.
尺寸 Such LED displays are usually small and medium in size. Most of them are larger in size.
brightness The brightness level of indoor LED displays is lower than that of outdoor displays. Because the outdoor LED display is exposed to direct sunlight, its brightness level is high.
protection grade IP 20 or higher is enough for indoor LED displays. They require a higher IP rating (IP65 or at least IP54) to withstand rain, wind, dust and collisions.
waterproof Indoor LED displays do not need to be waterproof because they cannot withstand harsh weather conditions. Since outdoor LED displays have to withstand rain and storms, they need to be waterproof.
easy to install Installation of indoor LED displays is simple. Outdoor LED displays are difficult to install.
service level They are easy to maintain. This type of LED display is difficult to maintain.
power consumption Indoor LED displays consume less energy than outdoor LED displays. Because outdoor displays are larger and produce brighter images, they consume more power.
viewing distance The viewing distance of indoor displays is shorter. Outdoor LEDs have longer viewing distances to ensure maximum visibility.
price The price of this kind of LED screen is lower than that of external screen. Because outdoor LED displays require better protection, higher image quality and reliable installation, they cost much more.
