Recently, researchers at the University of Strathclyde in the United Kingdom announced the development of a new transfer process for Micro LEDs:continuous roller transfer technology, which can accurately transfer more than 75000 Micro LEDs in a single transfer, and developed an automatic metering system for the number and yield of transfers.

Researchers said that this process can achieve massive integration of Micro LEDs. It can transfer a320x240 pixel array in one transfer, equivalent to more than 75000 Micro LEDs. The relative position accuracy reaches sub-micron level, and it can maintain The geometric structure of the pixel array, and the deviation between pixel spatial positioning error and design layout is controlled within1 m.

In addition, the researchers also used an automatic sub-micron precision metrology system based on a simple optical microscope to evaluate such a large number of devices and also evaluate yield.

In addition to the massive transfer of Micro LEDs, the process can also be used in other types of equipment, including silicon and printed electronic equipment, such as flexible and wearable electronic devices, smart packaging and radio frequency identification tags; at the same time, the process is used in photovoltaic equipment manufacturing, drug delivery systems, biosensors, and biomedical applications such as tissue engineering.
