MIT researchers demonstrate perovskite nanoscale LED arrays

Although significant progress has been made in the development of halide perovskite materials and devices, their integration with nanoscale optoelectronics has been hampered by a lack of control over nanoscale patterns. Due to the tendency of perovskites to degrade rapidly, they are chemically incompatible with traditional lithography processes.

Here, MIT Farnaz Niroui proposes an alternative bottom-up approach for accurately and scalable formation of perovskite nanocrystals arrays with deterministic control of size, number and position.

Key points of the article

1) In this method, local growth and positioning are guided using a topography template with controlled surface wettability, through which nanoscale forces are designed to achieve sublithographic resolution.

2) Through this technology, the researchers demonstrated a deterministic array of CsPbBr3 nanocrystals with adjustable size as low as <50nm and positional accuracy of <50nm.

3) Multi-functional, scalable and compatible with device integration processes, and then using this technology to demonstrate nanoscale light emitting diode arrays, highlighting the new opportunities this platform provides for the integration of perovskites into on-chip nanodevices.
