Domestic R &D team develops Micro LED high-efficiency backlight devices

Recently, foreign media reported that researchers from many universities in China have jointly developed an innovative Self-polarizing RGB display device, which is based on Semipolar Micro LEDs and perovskite thin film materials. It can significantly improve the performance of backlight technology.

It is reported that traditional liquid crystal display (LCD) backlight units usually emit unpolarized light, which loses nearly half of the light energy when passing through the polarizer of the LCD. The core of this latest research and development technology is that it can directly emit RGB self-polarized light, thereby avoiding light energy loss caused by the polarizer and greatly improving backlight efficiency.

The research was completed by a team led by Professor Tingzhu Wu. They designed a unique device architecture that includes blue semi-polar Micro LEDs that emit inherently polarized light. These Micro LEDs not only emit light by themselves, but also serve as excitation light sources, combined with a perovskite color conversion layer with an anisotropic structure to realize an RGB full-color polarized light emitting device.

The device design not only achieves efficient and stable polarized light emission in the full RGB spectrum, but also makes breakthroughs in color performance. Its color range is wide, NTSC color gamut coverage reaches 137.2%, and Rec. 2020 color gamut coverage reaches 102.5%. In addition, the device performs excellent linear polarization degree (DOLP) values in three colors, demonstrating its huge potential in display technology.

This achievement not only marks an important progress in the field of display technology, but also provides a new design direction for future display devices, indicating that more efficient and colorful display technology is about to enter the market.
