Huge transfer and breakthrough: 75,000 MicroLEDs can be transferred at a time

The University of Strathclyde in the United Kingdom recently announced the development of a new large-scale transfer technology for microleds. Through continuous roller transfer technology, more than 75,000 MicroLEDs can be accurately transferred. The team has also developed an automatic measurement system for the transfer quantity and yield.

The team pointed out that the roller transfer process can realize a huge transfer of MicroLEDs. In one transfer, a 320x240 pixel array can be transferred, with more than 75,000 MicroLEDs. The relative position accuracy reaches the submicron level, and the geometry of the pixel array can be maintained, and the positioning error and design deviation can be controlled below 1 m.

In addition, the team also used an automatic submicron precision metrology system with a simple optical microscope to evaluate large-scale parts and also evaluate yield.

In addition to the massive transfer of MicroLEDs, the process can also be used in other types of equipment, including silicon processes, PCBs, and in biomedical applications such as solar equipment manufacturing, drug delivery systems, biosensors, and tissue engineering.
